Gas Safety Policy

Last updated: January 2025

At Gas Shack, safety is at the heart of everything we do. We are a team of qualified gas engineers — not just a delivery service — and we take our responsibility to handle, store and supply LPG gas safely extremely seriously. This page sets out our safety commitments and what we ask of our customers.

Our qualifications and training

All Gas Shack team members who handle, transport or connect LPG cylinders are qualified gas engineers who attend regular safety training. We stay up to date with changes in gas safety legislation, ADR transport regulations and industry best practice. We are a Calor recommended dealer, which means we have been assessed and approved by Calor Gas Ltd for the safe supply and handling of their products.

How we store cylinders

All LPG cylinders at our Padstow depot are stored upright in ventilated, purpose-built storage compounds away from ignition sources, drains and public access areas. Our storage facilities comply with the UKLPG Code of Practice 1 for the storage of LPG at fixed installations. Cylinders are regularly inspected for damage, corrosion and integrity before being made available for sale or exchange.

How we transport cylinders

All cylinders are transported by our own qualified team in vehicles equipped and maintained for the safe carriage of dangerous goods under ADR regulations. We do not use third-party couriers or logistics companies for gas cylinder deliveries. Cylinders are secured upright during transport and valves are closed and protected at all times.

What we do on delivery

When we deliver to you our team will connect your cylinder to your gas system where appropriate, carry out a basic check on hoses and regulator connections, and confirm the system is operating safely before they leave. If we identify a safety concern — a damaged hose, an incorrect regulator, or a connection that does not meet safety standards — we will advise you and may decline to connect the cylinder until the issue is resolved. Your safety matters more to us than completing a delivery.

Cylinder inspection

We inspect every cylinder before it leaves our depot. We will not supply cylinders that are visibly damaged, heavily corroded, have damaged valves or show any signs that may compromise safety. Exchange cylinders returned to us that we deem unsafe will be removed from circulation.

What we ask of our customers

We ask all customers to store cylinders upright in a well-ventilated space away from heat sources, drains and ignition sources. Cylinders must never be stored inside a building, vehicle or enclosed space — always in an external ventilated gas locker or cage. Always turn off the cylinder valve when appliances are not in use. If you smell gas, turn off the supply at the cylinder valve immediately, ventilate the area, do not operate electrical switches, leave the building and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Annual gas safety inspections

We strongly recommend that all domestic and commercial gas installations are inspected annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Gas Shack's team can advise on finding a Gas Safe engineer for your installation. Commercial customers are legally required to hold a current gas safety certificate for all gas appliances in their premises.
