Hobbyweld Oxygen is a high-quality industrial gas for oxy-fuel cutting, welding, brazing, soldering and heating. Oxygen supports the combustion of a compatible fuel gas, such as acetylene, allowing the equipment to produce the high-temperature flame required for hot-work applications.

When paired with Hobbyweld Acetylene and the correct equipment, oxygen can be used for metal cutting, heating seized components, brazing, soldering and oxy-acetylene welding. Required Equipment

The Original and Plus cylinders require a compatible oxygen regulator with the correct connection and pressure rating. The Ultra cylinder uses an EN 561 quick-action outlet and must be connected using the appropriate Hobbyweld-compatible equipment.

A complete oxy-fuel setup will normally require:

Flashback Arrestors

Flashback arrestors are essential safety devices designed to help prevent a flame from travelling backwards through the equipment towards the regulator or cylinder.

Hobbyweld states that flashback arrestors must be used with oxygen-and-fuel equipment in accordance with the Acetylene Safety Regulations 2014. Suitable arrestors should be fitted to both the oxygen and fuel-gas sides of the system. Equipment selection and positioning must follow current legislation, manufacturer instructions and competent safety guidance.

Important Oxygen Safety

Oxygen does not burn, but it strongly supports combustion. Materials that normally burn slowly can ignite more easily and burn extremely rapidly in an oxygen-enriched atmosphere.

Always:

• Keep oxygen equipment completely free from oil and grease
• Use only oxygen-compatible regulators, hoses and fittings
• Keep cylinders upright and securely restrained
• Use and store cylinders in a well-ventilated location
• Keep oxygen away from fuel gases and combustible materials during storage
• Protect cylinders from heat, sparks, flames and impact
• Fit the required flashback arrestors and non-return valves
• Check connections with approved leak-detection fluid
• Close the cylinder valve after every use
• Remove combustible materials from the work area
• Keep suitable fire-fighting equipment nearby
• Follow the correct lighting-up and shutdown procedures
• Use appropriate ventilation and respiratory protection where fumes are produced

Never use oil or grease on an oxygen valve, regulator or fitting. Never test for leaks with a naked flame, use oxygen to clean clothing or equipment, or deliberately enrich the air in a workspace.

Do not modify the cylinder, tamper with its valve or attempt to refill it yourself. If a leak is suspected, stop work, eliminate ignition sources and follow the current emergency guidance without placing yourself at risk.
