Hobbyweld 5 vs Hobbyweld 15

Hobbyweld 5 contains 5% carbon dioxide and is recommended for thin carbon or mild-steel sections below 7mm, including sheet metal and vehicle-restoration work.

Hobbyweld 15 contains 15% carbon dioxide and is designed for thicker steel sections, normally between 7mm and 15mm. It is the more suitable option for general fabrication, repairs and light-trade work requiring greater weld penetration.

Regulator and Equipment Compatibility

A compatible shielding-gas regulator is required. Hobbyweld 15 Original and Plus cylinders use a 5/8″ BSP right-hand female outlet. The Ultra cylinder uses an EN 561 quick-action connection.

Check the regulator connection and maximum inlet-pressure rating before ordering. Never force an incompatible regulator onto a cylinder or use an unsuitable adaptor. A suitable flowmeter may also be required to control the shielding-gas flow.

Safety and Storage

Hobbyweld 15 is supplied as compressed gas at high pressure. Although it is not a fuel gas, it can displace oxygen and create an asphyxiation hazard in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space.
